Re: The new SCC Linux modifications
16 May 2012 | 4:45 amHi,Is there any particular reason why the misc devices are used instead of cdev?I wanted to get rid of the static major/minor number assignment, and was under the false impression that cdev cannot allocate new numbers automatically. In addition (and more importantly), I wanted the kernel to create device files in /dev automatically (via devtmpfs), and I did not know how that can be done with cdev-s. Miscdevices provided both features, so I used them instead. another thing is that I am getting error when trying to compile the Linux in sccmem.c In function 'rckdyn_write' " error:… -
Re: How do multi-threaded programs perform when run on a single-thread processor?
16 May 2012 | 3:13 amWith multi-threading app in single-core system Windows CPU scheduler work is no differ with running multiple applications in same time. It is split CPU time into time slices (130 ms) and within slices to quantums (10 ms). The forefront app (which window is active & have user input focus) will receive 75% of timeslice, other apps will share remaining 25%, by 10 ms parts (we claim that all apps have same priority). In case of multithreaded apps every process created by app is threated as another app. So, if one app created many processes, they all will fight for CPU time with other apps… -

I'm using the one from the rckmpi2 folder, so I had compiled it with --with-device=invasive --with-pm=invasive originally. The new release has an improved MPB channel, as the only option. The reason for this is that changes to the device and PMI were necessary to reduce the latency of spawns and to support a new programming model. These changes made the library incompatible with previous channels. The name invasive is in reference to the german project InvasIC. The idea behind this…

Key Trends in Networking on Display at Interop*
15 May 2012 | 11:37 amAt Interop this week, we saw several examples of the industry moving toward the flat data center network and software defined networking. System latency important in flat networksFlat data center networks require new, large core switches that absorb what were previously defined as the aggregation and core switch layers. Two such core switches were announced from Huawei* and Gnodal* at the show. But one of the key ingredients in the flat data center network is the top-of-rack (ToR) switch that feeds these core switches. In order to reduce the cost and complexity of these… -

Protection of patient data breaches and financial fraud are important, but more critical aspects must also be considered. Life safety systems must not be impacted from denial-of-service attacks and integrity compromises. A…

Greatness starts by doing the small things right
23 Apr 2012 | 5:57 pmAcross the globe, researchers, educators and organizations are studying the reasons behind declining degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields – and there is no shortage of data on “the problem.” However, it is extremely rare to find research or information on how to fix this decline; there’s no 5 step model of how to birth, deliver STEM graduates, and keep them in STEM careers. There are no books on how to decode STEM challenges or where best to have a STEM intervention – yet in every corner of every cube lies an opinion about the problem. -
